Emphasize Your Accomplishments, Be sure to include your key accomplishments on your resume. Did you do something that saved a previous employer money? Did you find a way to do something in less time without sacrificing quality? Did you personally show your co-worker(s) how to do something? If you have done any of these things write them down on your resume. Let the employer know what you have done in the past and they will have a much better idea of what you will be able to do for them!
You don't know if the sample you're tempted to copy was even effective. Here's a question: if you copy text straight from a lousy resume, what does that make your resume? There's a reason for the old axiom, garbage in, garbage out. Unless you have it on good authority that some particular resume sample is a real gem, it's just as likely a lump of coal. The trouble is, many folks who aren't trained in resume writing simply can't tell just by looking at a resume if it satisfies all the criteria that hiring officials are looking for. Is it formatted for maximum benefit of the candidate's qualifications? Is it keyword rich? Does it demonstrate subtle branding techniques that set the candidate apart from his/her competitors? Is it sufficiently promotional without seeming biased?
You are your only constant companion throughout your whole life. So, you would be the only person who knows everything and best suited to write a resume. Still it is very tough for many people to write their own profile. It is because they lack knowledge of how the ideal curriculum vitae should look like and are not clear of what contents should be placed in which structure. With many questions hovering around, it is very easy to get bamboozled. You can easily resolve this problem by gaining knowledge, by observing as many resume samples as possible.
There are so many different ways one can put together a resume that if you were to try to choose one you would be utterly confused. The net is full of places offering free sample resumes or resume templates and if you search for these it won't be long before you download hundreds of different resume samples and templates. The first step to writing your resume is research. Research using the net or in your nearest library and find out the different ways a resume can be put together. You will be able to find several downloadable sample resumes. Download some of them and use them. Make sure the resume samples follow certain basic requirements. The resumes must have a white margin all around the page and it must be divided into sections like personal information, education, job experience etc. This makes the resume scan able. This is important because the person who is doing the hiring is a very busy person and he can just spent only around 40 to 50 seconds on your resume. If it is scan able, he can get the required information easily and he will like you for that and possibly reward you with the job.
Remember, there are thousands of other people following the same sample resumes to create their own. So, it is advisable to use several sample resumes. Go through them. Compare among the best ones. Then use the best three or four sample resumes and create one that appears unique. Since you will be applying for a professional job, your resume must also look professional. This does not mean you cannot go out of the way to create something more unique than the ones available in the net. Your resume is your first impression to your potential employer and don't forget first impression counts. So, you better make it as impressive and attractive as possible.
A cover letter resume sample is a great way to fight the writer's block that most of us have when we're writing a cover letter. A cover letter for your resume is extremely important because it's a means for you to actually sell yourself even before the hiring manager gets to your resume. Most hiring managers don't have the time to sift through all of the information in one single resume. Hiring managers in a big company can only allow a maximum of 2 minutes per resume, if it looks interesting enough. The cover letter is a great way to convince any recruiter that you're worth their time.
Truly functional resume samples are in fact nothing like 'functional' in the sense we think of. What we need to do is stand out from the crowd, and appeal on an emotional level to the person reading it. For example, a powerful resume will always begin with an objective, almost like a mission statement, because that really makes them take notice. You want to include reasons why you want the job and why you are ideally suited to it. Ninety five percent of the other guys won't even think of doing that.
