The resume should be designed so that the most important information can be obtained with only a cursory scan. This is usually all the effort that your resume will initially receive. Only the most important information should be presented in your resume and it should be devoid of excessive verbiage. This makes it easier for the reader to obtain and remember the pertinent information. Work experience that is not related to the educational field should be summarized. This shows depth and breadth in your subject area. However, it should not be the main thrust. Your teaching and training experience should be the focus of your resume. You should also be sure to indicate your educational achievements including all honors and awards you have received. A teaching resume should be designed to reflect that you are well-established in your field and that you have the background and teaching experience that they may require. The purpose of the resume is to get your foot in the academic door. Thus, it is important that the resume be properly designed.
You may find some resume samples that have bullet points. No employer will have the time (or patience) to read long paragraphs of text. Make sure, therefore, to use bullet points and short sentences to describe your experiences, educational background and professional objectives. One good way to format your resume is by using the keywords that appear in the job description of the position opened. This will definitely increase your chances of getting called in for that interview. By doing so, you have made it easier for hiring managers to do the elimination process.
Blank spaces might be provided on functional format samples to give applicants room to organize their work histories. Since job skills are more important than work histories, many job seekers will use functional resume samples to learn how to put work histories in reverse order, so that unemployment periods are not so easily recognized. Job applicants will list their employment history and any education degrees that they have received, tailored to the potential job position, rather than just listing your work history chronologically.
