What ever job your going for it is quite possible you will be able to find a sample to help you. Read them all carefully and pick out bits you like from different resumes. Do not copy a complete resume, be creative and build your own resume. The samples are to be used as guides only. The best way to use resume samples is to choose a few different samples and pick areas in resume that you like. Make sure you choose a format that highlights your strengths and achievements. Remember the aim of a well written resume is to get you to the job interview. So take your time in selecting samples, you need to impress the prospective employer so the resume needs to be dam near perfect.
The good news is that the dozens of free resume samples and resume templates sites on the Internet provide a good selection of sample resumes for many occupational titles that you can view, take or leave. Some are certainly better than others. Some are in plain text so you can copy and paste the resume sample directly into your word processor. Other samples are in image format, allowing you to view only and require that you retype the information if you can use it. Other free resume samples sites go as far as offering a built-in program that allows you to upload the sample right into MS Word, formatted and all!
All that person is thinking about is the risk attached to you: is it more of a risk to let you work for a competitor, or is it more of a risk to have you working for them? Your resume will lead them towards one of those conclusions. But when we talk about 'functional resume samples', many people make the mistake of thinking that their resume must be objective, direct, businesslike, and devoid of personality. Nothing could be further from the truth. We call it a 'functional resume' because it performs its function, ie it gets them ringing you and wanting you to come in for interview. In fact, the image we often have of the word 'functional', in other words objective, logical, 'left-brained' is precisely the sort of resume that usually gets a big yawn and then gets trashed.
