Bear in mind that a cover letter is the summary of your resume, typically the points that are powerful in your resume. This means that in writing a cover letter, do not over boast on all of your achievements, or do not be too humble as well, you need to sell your self in a way that they will hire you because they are impressed, not because they pity you, remember, there are no company in today's time who hires a person because they seem to be pitiful. Companies need a strong individual.
So before you start looking for resume samples to use, and even before sending that resume to the employer, you need to ponder if the particular job is really the one you want. Because it is also part of the employer's goal to keep their employees satisfied, since it tends to be fruitful for the business if all the players inside the organization are working on a similar page or heading forwards the same direction. Is this the right job for me? Does it offer the kind of satisfaction I am looking for in a job? Do my skills fill in the gap of the job placement? Having solved all these, you can now continue the search for the right resume samples that will fit you. Securing employment is one heck of a challenge, especially if you have no honors or extra curricular activities to boast of. However, these do not measure your capability as a person who is built to survive whatever challenge. Don't let it hinder you and instead, bank on your experiences to take you farther than the rest. With on the job trainings and work experiences on the field under your belt, your potential employers will know for themselves that you have already gotten a taste of the real deal. Thus, they have a lot to probe about you, and you have all the more chances to prove yourself and your worth. This is an advantage for your part, thus you need to be proud of it and not wallow in self pity for not garnering the best grade there is.
The resume should be designed so that the most important information can be obtained with only a cursory scan. This is usually all the effort that your resume will initially receive. Only the most important information should be presented in your resume and it should be devoid of excessive verbiage. This makes it easier for the reader to obtain and remember the pertinent information. Work experience that is not related to the educational field should be summarized. This shows depth and breadth in your subject area. However, it should not be the main thrust. Your teaching and training experience should be the focus of your resume. You should also be sure to indicate your educational achievements including all honors and awards you have received. A teaching resume should be designed to reflect that you are well-established in your field and that you have the background and teaching experience that they may require. The purpose of the resume is to get your foot in the academic door. Thus, it is important that the resume be properly designed.
You don't know where that resume sample's been. Yes, I know. I sound like I'm channeling a mother scolding a child to take that stick (or pencil, or shoe, or toilet plunger) out of his mouth. But sometimes, mothers know best. In the case of the free resume samples you might uncover on the internet, there's no telling how many times that text has been copied and pasted onto documents. In other words, you don't know where it's been. If a hiring manager has seen the exact same objective and summary language on six resumes that have come across his desk that morning, how do you think he'll react when he sees your document duplicating the same text all over again? Not favorably, I suspect.
Now take a good look at the lists you have made. These are your qualifications. At least as far as what you can offer to an employer. You should take a little more time to go over the steps one or two more times and write down more accomplishments, skills and experience to improve this qualifications profile. Often, on the second time, and even third time, going through the exercise you will think of other things. Write them down as they come to you! Most people never take the time to look as closely at themselves from this angle as you just have. They think they are not good at anything. They think they are only average. I guarantee you have skills and accomplishments that I do not. You must get them out of your head, out of your history, and write them down. Only then will you really be able to see yourself. Only then will you truly understand your qualifications. Now, the next step is to use this qualifications profile to create a full-fledged resume. However, you have already taken that first and most important step. Now, it is a simple matter of taking the information you have listed and placing it into a proper resume format. That is the easy part.
