So why is this opening objective or statement so effective? Because it aligns your resume with effective business meetings that the reader has probably attended. They expect an agenda, a purpose to the meeting. So your resume can signal to them within seconds that you have a background of attending high-powered business meetings. You haven't started listing your job history yet, and already they are wanting that job history to back up the warm feeling that they have from your mission 'statement.' You see how it works? Much the same as how we 'buy' anything of value, we want it emotionally first and then use the facts to logically back up the decision we want to make. So functional resume samples, far from being the dry, tedious documents that that phrase suggests, are resumes that score an early emotional hit with the reader, and puts them in exactly the frame of mind that you want, before they ready their eighty fifth job history of the day!
The objective statement indicates what job(s) or position(s) the applicant is interested in. This is very important because hiring managers usually need to place a lot of people in more than one job category. The last thing you want to happen is for your application to be drafted in the wrong job slot. The achievements portion of the cover letter is also a summary of the achievements already listed in the resume. A bulleted list of four most significant achievements/accomplishments is a safe inclusion in any cover letter. Make sure that your closing statement ends in a positive note. It's supposed to express you heartfelt hopes of being part of the company you're pursuing.
You may find some resume samples that have bullet points. No employer will have the time (or patience) to read long paragraphs of text. Make sure, therefore, to use bullet points and short sentences to describe your experiences, educational background and professional objectives. One good way to format your resume is by using the keywords that appear in the job description of the position opened. This will definitely increase your chances of getting called in for that interview. By doing so, you have made it easier for hiring managers to do the elimination process.
