The purpose of the resume is to get your foot in the academic door. Thus, it is important that the resume be properly designed.

Cover letter resume sample is really important. This is for you to know on how will you perfectly and most effectively sell yourself to the manager. Keep in mind that most of the managers who do the hiring process will not really look at every page on your resume, yet, they will only give a 2 minutes time in reading those, especially on big companies. Don't expect them to give more time and effort on it. And a cover letter is a way of convincing the hiring team that their time will be worth if they read yours.
